Bafana Bafana Star Jayden Adams Dies at 25, South African Football in Mourning
South African football has been plunged into mourning following the death of Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana midfielder Jayden Adams, who died at the age of 25. The tragic news comes just days after his return from representing South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
According to reports, Adams’ body was discovered on Military Road in Schotsche Kloof, Cape Town, on Saturday morning. The Cape Town Central Police have confirmed that an inquest has been opened to determine the circumstances surrounding his death. At this stage, authorities have not announced the cause of death, and investigations remain ongoing.
The heartbreaking news follows another personal tragedy for Adams, whose grandmother, Marianna, passed away while he was on international duty with Bafana Bafana during the FIFA World Cup. The South African Football Association (SAFA) had previously confirmed the family bereavement before South Africa’s Round of 32 match.
Tributes have continued to pour in from across the football community. The South African Football Players Union (SAFPU) described Adams as a talented footballer who proudly represented South African football at both club and international level. Messages of sympathy have also been directed to his family, teammates, Mamelodi Sundowns, his former club Stellenbosch FC, and supporters across the country.
Adams established himself as one of South Africa’s brightest midfield talents after progressing through the ranks at Stellenbosch FC before earning a move to Mamelodi Sundowns. His performances at club level also secured him a regular place in the Bafana Bafana squad, where he represented South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Police have not released further details regarding the circumstances of his death. Until the official investigation is completed, no cause of death has been confirmed, and speculation should be avoided.
At just 25 years old, Jayden Adams had already become one of South Africa’s most promising footballers, with many believing he had many successful years ahead of him. His passing is a significant loss to South African football and will be deeply felt by teammates, supporters, and the wider sporting community.
Our heartfelt condolences go to his family, friends, teammates, coaches, and everyone affected by this tragic loss. May he rest in peace.
